Toshiba 32" colour tv
Model: CX32813
Chasis: TAC9238

TV worked perfectly for nearly 15 years.. never a problem, and one morning it just wouldn't turn on.

When power cord is first plugged in, and power button is pressed there is a sound like a relay clicking, but after that - nothing... totally dead.

Question is: Is this something that can be fixed relatively cheaply?

I found this so called "repair kit" which is for the CX32813 exhibiting the same problem for 29.99,

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

-Bob

I'd never buy a kit without finding out what is in it first. That part number doesn't seem to match anything I can find. It must be their own part number or something.

I've had experience with similar Toshibas blowing the Horizontal Output Transistor. It should be the largest semiconductor in there, attached to a heat sink (has 3 legs). I'd test that first. I think they typically blow because of a bad capacitor, so check if you have any of those bulging out.

Other suspects would be bad solder joints on the vertical IC, but I wouldn't expect that to occur all of a sudden. That's also attached to a heatsink, with probably 9 pins.

Thanks for the tips.

I've requested some details regarding that repair kit, and will post back what they say it contains.

Meanwhile, I gave a careful look over all capacitors, and to my untrained eye - could not detect any bulging. Is there anyway to get a schematic for this?

only way I know to get a schematic for this set is to buy one. I don't have one on hand.
