I have a green screen when tip tv on side blue screen when upside down blue screen. I was told this is degaussing. I took a 400 mfd capictor rated 400 volts charged up to 100 volts applied this the degaussing windings then I had no purity but all three colors on screen. I then checked the thermistor it is ok even put volt meter on leads to coil and it kicks meter over and coil has resistance, but when I hooked everything up have same all green tinted screen. You can hear when plugging in set the magnetic field going thru coils. Could this be picture tube problem or are coil windings part shorted? Also they have the coil windings going over top of tube then down sides right under yolk maybe coil windings shoul go all the way around tube?[/b]

has this TV been dropped? it sounds to me like the shadow mask in the CRT has shifted.

degaussing is when a short term alternating current is applied to the degauss coil (causing an alternating magnetic field)... in other words, a blue or green screen is not "degaussing". when a TV has portions of discoloration (like when a magnet changes the colors on the screen) it can be "deguassed" to remove those discolored portions.

FYI for anyone else reading this post: Most TVs have internal degauss circuits that operate when you first turn on the TV. Larger more power degaussing wands can be used when the TVs internal does not remove impurities.
