Here's an odd one. I have a Hitachi 55HDT79 plasma TV. On this TV, when you select the 'Inputs' button, you see choices including Input1-5, Air/Cable, and PhotoInput.

I have cable TV. The power and cable run thru a Monster "Reference PowerCenter HTS 3500 MKII" power filter.

After a recent thunderstorm, I turned the TV on to find that the Input "Air/Cable" now only says "Air" and I get no signal from my cable. (The power filter is still functioning normally so I am not sure if this problem is lightning-related. It's just a theory).

To troubleshoot, I connected a different, working TV to this cable and it works fine. I do have splitters so I also isolated to a direct cable from the cable box (without splitting) to the Hitachi with the same results. I also tested the other inputs (HDMI) and they work fine - I am able to watch DVDs.

Next I connected a small antenna to the Hitachi and lo and behold, it works. I can watch local stations perfectly with an antenna.

So, it 'feels' like whatever part in the TV that determines that Cable is connected has become senile and only recognizes antenna input.

I see from this forum that people who are way smarter than me have suggested to others what parts/cards to replace for their problems. I am not afraid to crack open my Hitachi if I know what part to look for. Any feedback on what part I might need is appreciated! (It was an expensive TV & I'd hate to toss it if it is fixable).

(It may be poor etiquette, but I will probably post this on more than one forum, so be kind if you see it in multiple places)

Thank you!

Try Auto Channel Scan on page 56 of Operating Guide.

Seriously? I feel stupid - that did it! I am doing a full re-scan now. I wonder why it 'forgot' my settings....

Wow - I really appreciate the fast and effective response! Have a great week.
