I have a Magnavox 17" LCD TV/Monitor that suddenly stopped display color gradients one day. It seems to either lose most color information or maybe "round off" to the nearest color so it only displays a small color palette whether I connect a video source through S Video, Composite Video, Coax, or VGA.

To give you an exact idea of what it does, I hooked it up to a laptop via VGA connection and brought up this image in a browser, and took this picture of what it displayed:

I've opened the back to check for burnt or otherwise damaged electronics, but see none. Any ideas what could cause this to happen, if there some electronic part that could be replaced to fix this? I have a good deal of soldering experience (mostly with modding joysticks for videogames and replacing damaged parts), so if I had some idea what to replace I may be able to recover this TV.

The label on the back says "Model 17MF200V/17".

Thanks for any help,
Shannon C.

Nevermind - I disassembled it again this morning and pushed in a connection that seemed a bit loose (in manufacturing the cable it attached was pinched in some metal shielding and it was taut), and the color has all returned to normal. Hopefully it will stay that way. :)

If anyone sees this model with the same problem, the board in the middle just under the back cover had a plug on the right side near the top which was pulled loose from the wires being caught under the metal shielding.

Thanks for having such an interesting an informative forum here! I read through who knows how many threads last night and it was quite fascinating and educational.

Shannon
