so if I clean out the crts and change the fluid , will that help the convergence or do I still need to complete the other task you mention? I don`t mind as I`m trying to learn how to fix these big screen sets.

And where is a good place to buy what I need ? Thanks for all your help.

You need to look into the CRT's while the set is on to confirm.

No, it will not solve your convergence problem. It will, however, make it possible for you to see what you are doing. Remove the screen and look directly into the CRT's while the set is on and you will see what I mean. You should be able to see the scan lines clearly. When the set is in the convergence alignment mode (while viewing the center cross on the screen) all three colors should be equal in focus and size on the center cross. (if you separate the colors on purpose you will see what I mean)

The convergence problem is a completely different matter. You need to solve the contaminated fluid first so when you do try to align the convergence you can see what you are doing. It is a high probability that you will need a template and a complete service manual.

To repair the contiminated fluid problem I believe that MCM has the fluid needed. (It is optical grade fluid which is a combination of anti-freeze and glycerin). The seals, Part number 483529087141, can be purchased from here. http://WWW.searspartsdirect.com for $12.08 each you will most likely need 2.

If you have never done this before, beware. You are very likely getting in over your head. (no offense).

I have the general directions virtually completed but have not posted yet. I am swamped right now with work so it will be a while before I do.

Hope this helps

Thanks Jesse no offense taken .I appreciate all the help and time you have given, I am willing to do this in order to learn how to repair these sets. ( besides the fact I need a tv.lol) I am quite mechanically incline and believe I can do this , with help of course, I like learning and trying to work on these sets . Maybe, just maybe, I can learn to work on these and fix a few to earn a few bucks.

Thanks again for all your time and help. H.P.

By the way who or where is MCM?
