I'm pretty sure amerillove was just parroting, but just in case...

Are you telling use there are MORE electrolytic capacitors on the CRT neck board than on the Main P.C. board? Most I can ever recall is about 18 - 24 max.

About 75% of the computer monitors I repair require one or more, and in maybe 60% that is ALL that was wrong.

There's a lot of boards and a lot of caps. But if you say the crt neck board is all id need to check, I suppose I could.

BTW about the dirty hands - I'm a mechanic by trade (but I wear gloves :P )

Post/edit crossed in the mail.

I'm presuming: That board IS where the INPUT wire is going? And where the video processing IC is mounted?

eh.... I don't know, this monitor has 4 or 5 boards and all of them have tons of caps...

So how do you test a cap anyway?

I use a Sencore LC102 for testing out of circuit and a MAT in circuit ESR tester for initial test (realizing the limitations of the MAT tester - a parallel component MAY affect the test, for example). Also have a Fluke for value only testing of capacitor.
I've seen the cheaper meters miss caps that the expensive one finds bad, but only a time or two have I had the expensive tester say cap is good when in fact it's bad. Cool
