Hello everyone! I am new to both electronics and to the Forum. But I love to tinker with things and I came across this TV for free. Here are the problems: Works good but after about 20minutes it starts generating a high pitched whine that can last anywere from 15min-an hour. Picture quality is ok, but has a bit of divergence around the edges. Now I have been studying these forums for a few hours and Im guessing that it is the Flyback Power Transistor??? I really appreciate all advice, including how not to get shocked and die. My wife and kids would not do to well if I was gone just yet... Looking to possibly pick up TV repair as Hobby/extra income. What do I need to know guys? Thanks, Jason Shaw.

If there is a whine, it MAY be the flyback TRANSFORMER (not transistor). but it could also be many other things.
I'm not able to find anything from your model number except a post on portland craigslist, which sounds like it might be your specific TV. Can you double-check the model number for me?

(Transformer) not transistor.... Got it.
I am not sure about the model# as I only know from what they say it is. I have not had the time to go and pick it up yet.
I really am very interested in learning all i can about tv repair. Like I said, I love to tinker with anything that has lots of parts, trouble shooting things ect.... I think I would really enjoy this as a hobby, and look forward to any and all advice/comments.
And ya, if someone could please let me know how to not kill myself whilst playin with tha boob tubes id be mighty greatfull! Seems like every time i tinker with somthing i end up with blood and a towel. Electricity and Voltage, I fear i may end up in a grave.I joke about it but, (This is real fear not a joke).Seriously, how does a tv hold on to its charge after its been shut off for long periods of time? Which items in the inards can't be touched and stuff?
Thanks everyone for viewing my post, and thanks to the(one) and only person who actually replied! Thanks for correcting my ignorence, thats what all us newbys need.
