I have a 45" rear projection tv. I''ve had it for several years now, maybe going on 10 or so, so it's definitely not new. For the past few months it's been very snowy, and usually this occurs when I first turn it on, and then after it warmed up, it would going away. But lately it gets snowy at any time while it's on regardless of how long it's been on. It can be on for 5 hours and then get snowy.
I was wondering if anyone knew what the cause would be, or if it could be any number of things going on.
Thank you!

PT-51G44A
Sorry, had read the front of my manual, hoping it was it, instead of having to pull out a tv that is not on wheels! :)
Thank you! |

I have a note here to replace C581 (33uf@250V) it should be near the flyback transformer.
I would also check the other capacitors if you have a TV that needs a warm-up time. |

How much do you think that would cost to repair? Is it normally very costly? Or is it considered a smaller repair?
And if it does it even after it warms up, as it does sometimes, it will be on for hours and then suddenly turn snowy, do you still think the other capacitors may need replaced?
Thank you. |

It sounds like it's best to hire a professional unless I can find specific steps to how exactly it is done. Soldering is no problem though.
How much would you estimate that a professional would charge? Just trying to get an idea of whether it's worth it or not to fix it. |

to replace the 1 cap: $75
to diagnose and replace several caps? $150
just my rough guess. |
