I know I have to replace the coolant as I have the classic symptoms and I have read the guide, but it does not mention if you have to discharge the crts. I am a newbie to television repair but I thought any tv with any sort of picture tube had to be discharged before working on it. Does this not apply to projection tv's?

When in doubt... Discharge it.

Caution, The normal discharge method for these kind's of crt's can cause arcing after the fact, (After you have completed the repairs and turn the set on), as they are installed with a silicone based dielectric sealant compound. DO NOT insert any instrument under the cap as it will damage the dielectric properties of the anode cap you are working on. The simplest method is to touch the second anode wire to chassis ground after removing it from the IHVT. Do not attempt to remove the second anode cap directly from the CRT or insert any instrument under the cap.
