Hello, I recently acquired this TV unit from my Step Father that he claimed wouldn't work. Obviously it doesn't as I wouldn't be here if it did.

The problem I am having is that when I turn the unit on, the green power LED comes on, the LCD in the top left flashes the 'input' type really quick, not fast enough to tell what input it is, then the screen goes black. I've connected it to my laptop via PC cable and get no input from it, nor does a HDMI cable box.

I pulled the board cover off the back, checked all of the components on it for blown parts that were visible and nothing seemed to be popped. There was some dust on the board that the power supply is on which I cleaned off with a q-tip and alcohol and other than that everything else looks great.

I can use a multimeter but I'm kind of stumped at where to start testing to figure out what part of this thing needs replacing. Any help or Ideas as to where to start?

Thanks

--Update--: I just tried turning the TV on and now I am no longer getting the input flash on the LCD in the top right corner, now it is staying black and emitting a static-like sound from the speakers. The volume will lower the sound. ???

I checked the voltages on the 5pin to the main board and it looks fine. I can hear static through the speakers when I attempt to change channels, I cannot however see anything on the LCD display. At the right angle i can see static, but its grey on black? It's really weird.. Any ideas of what to check next? It looks like none of the bulbs are getting power or somethings broken between the main board and the display

When I shine my LED flashlight at the display while the unit is turned on and connected thru HDMI to my laptop, I can see the desktop image being displayed on the TV screen, however without a flashlight you cannot see it at all. It's like all of the image is appearing without any backlight from the display

Yes, was trying to get my question out there in multiple places.

K8L voltages are fine, however if I am getting a picture with no backlight would the K8L voltages even matter? if the k8L gets bad or no voltage the unit wont even display anything at all will it?

K8L IS the connections to the inverter built into the panal. Pin3 BL_ON (Backlight On) & Pin4 BL_ADJ (Backlight Adjust) and 24 volt from PS ARE required for backlight to illuminate.
Pin5 Status= Normal : Under 0.7V Abnormal : Upper 3.0V
