Sanyo 19" TV
Model DS19630
Chassis 19630-02

No Sound / Intermittent Sound Issue:
I was given this TV today for free. No sound normally while hooked up to Time Warner cable. Picture is perfect and on screen volume controls work fine. I do not have the IR remote. Changing the on screen option from cable to VHF/UHF, auto-tuner can aquire UHF channels with no antenna and view them. Fuzzy channels have sound just fine. Any time a UHF channel that has proper signal, the sound cuts out. On fuzzy channels the sound is audible only from about 5/8 to 6/8 volume, any other volume, the sound is completely gone. Any snowy channels have the loud static noise perfectly audible.

The internal mono speaker reads 7.8 ohms disconnected and works fine when taken out and hooked up to an extern audio source. Speaker's voice coil moves freely and appears fine, have not yet tried a different 8 ohm speaker.

Inspected the only board in the TV and cannot find any traces of magic smoke. Blew out all dust with a compressor and no other tell-tale signs. Both volume buttons on front of TV had the plastic retainer mechanism broken off (Maybe someone hit it to try to get the sound to work?). No stress indicated on the PCB mounts to indicate physical damage.

Question:
Static channels have loug audible static noise on them, ideas?
Static'y channels have between 5/8 to 6/8 volume set on-screen, ideas?
Is SAP enabled or something and cannot be configured due to lack of remote, ideas?
Does not sound like a cold solder joint due to above. Sounds like a bad resistor/cap/ IC / voltage issue, or on screen setting.

Many, many, many thanks..... Seriously....

SAP sounds like the most reasonable guess to me. buy/borrow a cheap universal remote and try to see if you wan switch it off.
