Moduslink is a very good company. I think they are the only company in this country that has this ability. ((Send them a board and they can rebuild. They must have a huge warehouse)) The original company was called PTS and was bought out by Moduslink about two years ago. Their quality of service has not degraded at all and I highly recommend them.
When I looked up the information I was using the original Sony Service information and their Training manual and Diagnostic information. The Block diagram clearly shows that the memory stick bypasses everything but the BY board. That is why the advice was given.
Moduslink also has a service in which you can pull the complete chassis and send it to them and I believe the cost is just about the same except the shipping carton is larger and shipping cost is higher. At least it is significantly higher from the far north where I live.

no Jesse, he wasn't talking about you. There's some joker that keeps registering every week or so with a different gmail name. He copies some line at random within that thread and reposts it at the bottom.

This time he copied your line about nothing probably being wrong with your set. out of your initial context, it was quite irritating. I deleted it when I noticed it, so that probably led to more confusion.
