Even though I didn't have a lamp, I went to this set since the guy didn't want to move it. Of course the lamp looks fine and I know you cannot tell by that. But this LCD sony is shutting down really fast. After pressing the power button I can hear the fans start up, a click or two and within 5 seconds they shut down. 5 seconds at the most. That seems really fast too me for it to know the lamp is bad, but I've only had a few LCD Sony's to work on. The power light blinks 8 times with a pause then repeats. I've not had a lot of time to look yet but right off I didn't see what usually causes the 8 blinks, if that's something that really means anything. So, any help from someone that maybe knows these Sony LCD's would help me out. I don't have the service manual of course and not sure I should get a lamp with it shutting down that fast. I was thinking they didn't start up at all with that Thermal fuse bad.

8 blinks is the over voltage protect of the
3.3 and 2.5 lines....
A board and / or B board...

How ever this model is one that has the defective
thermal fuse mounted right underneath the lamp block
housing... I would really check that first...

If you remove the lamp comes out from the front
you will see right under neath there is a thermal coupler
look like an older style microwave thermal..

I still bet this is your problem...at any rate if it is of the
older style it should be change any way for good measure
but then again it could also generate another service call
down the road later on hopefully and then you can charge again
for a different repair......

I have never had this model produce a 8 blink error code..
try the thermal....this is what I would do it easy to check..

If it is the thermal here is the revised updated part number
for the replacement which will look totally different then the original

Part number...1-910-023-93 The lamp is a XL2200
Part # A-1085-447-A.

Chassis # LA-3

Good Luck....Keep us posted sir....

This might sound like stupid question, but since I didn't look today when I pulled the lamp out. Can I get to the thermal fuse from the front, so I can jump it ?

If it was in the shop then it would be different but its not. So not having the service bulletin or manual, I really don't want to drive back there any more than I have too.

Yes it is blinking 8 times, I watch it for quite awhile and the fans do start up, but shut back down fast. Have you ever had a open thermal and the fans would start at all ?

Thanks for your time
