I ran into one of these beasts that has a rather odd video problem. aside from the bars and line in the component video, the set has chromatic distortion on all inputs.
its really hard to explain, but when the color is up, the red just sorta pixilates and washes out the entire picture. almost exactly like an LCD does with a bad cable/drive board.
but, if i turn the color all the way down, it looks perfect in black and white.
also, if i turn on picture in picture split-screen mode, the color looks perfect also. it only does it when im in a regular mode. almost like theres an issue with the comb filter.
any ideas? |

Mike, found this note. May help, May not.
Very distorted pix, severe line pairing. Lines where so thick you could hardly make out the pix.
Taping on board made the problem come and go.
Traced to the BR board after soldering all the chip legs and the transformers on the board Q301 had no solder on the base pad and the foil was copper colored as if was never soldered at the factory.
Soldering this conection fixed the set. |

Jailbars in picture and Luminance Trouble is all caused
by the BR Board. Part Number: A1131319A
Hope this helps. |

ok i took some pictures to help better explain whats going on here. notice
the PIP looks perfect. (except convergence, but thats becuase i moved it
alot).
but the main picture looks chromatically distorted.
a new problem showed up. after playing for a bit, the HV will die, and sound
remain, the timer light flashes 5 times then pauses. and repeats.
But i believe thats to be solder joints, as i can push on the convergence
heatsinks and the picture will pop right back.

also, im picking up alot of high ESR SMD electrolytics in both the BM and BR
modules. some of the 10uf 16v lytics are reading between 20 to 10ohms ESR.
it varies from cap to cap. but i have some 10uf caps that read no higher
than 5 ohms, i even had a couple read 2 ohms.
but most are reading 15 to 20 ohms ESR. all the 47ufs and others are ok.
could this be my culprit? or do these SMD caps normaly have high ESRs like
this?
Thanks |

i changed all the caps, and still no difference.
it looks like im going to need a BR board, and the one link that was
suggested, they want $300 for a module. the TV isnt worth that. any ideas
where to get a used module, or maybe a cheap rebuild?
Thanks |
