Sony KV-35S42
Chassis AA-2d
The tv was running, then the picture scrunched up to the top of the screen, then disappeared. Sometimes the stand by timer light blinks when it does this, sometimes not. I have found that sometimes if I unplug the set while it is blinking and immediately plug it back in, it will give me a screen.
I have no pictures, and dont see anything burned in the back. When I have a screen, it is beautiful, but then it will go away. I am an electronics tech in the Navy, but work on aircraft, not TV's, so any little bit will help, including any schematics anybody might have.
Thanks,
Jamie |

| I think your tube is dying. see if it stays on if you turn the screen voltage up slightly. |

| screen voltage is likely on the flyback transformer. the big black thing with the big red wire coming out. |

I found an adjustment labeled screen on the back of the flyback. I turned it up ever so slightly and just got lines across the screen. i turned it up more and the TV just shut off. No improvement.
How can I get the HV lines off of the flyback without juicing myself? is there a release mechanism or just brute force? is there an easy way to get the circuit board out so I can check solder joints? |

you have to back the screen voltage off until the retrace lines no longer show. If at that point your TV is still flickering, then your sony TV has decided your picture is not optimal enough quality and is set to disable the picture. Basically your CRT is worn out.
I've always disliked that Sony had the say over whether my picture was good enough or not show.
You can try rejuvenating the tube, but it usually doesn't last very long on those sonys. |

The rejuvenating? You'd have to find someone that has a machine. I have one, and any good TV shop would have one.
But, like I said, it likely won't last very long. |
