Hello! After this stereo became only three years old, it developed the following symptom: Immediately after powering it on, and then using it, it works perfectly fine. However, after it has been operating for about ten minutes, it produces crackling sounds in the speakers, which only end up becoming worse until you can no longer hear anything unless you keep the volume at a very high level if I continue letting it operate. Then if I shut it off and leave it off for about a couple of hours, and then operate it again, it works fine, until after ten minutes. Then the exact same cycle just keeps repeating. I noticed that the fan inside of the unit was never operating, so, it was obvious to me that the unit was just heating up due to the fact that the fan was not working. However, when I replaced it with a brand new fan, the new fan ALSO did not operate. Ever. So, instead I went ahead and just used a high powered external fan, in order to keep the unit REALLY cool. But it still did not make any difference whatsoever. So therefore, my assumption has concluded that the original heat which had built up in the past, apparently did some type of permanent damage to some type of component inside, such as a capacitor, resistor, etc.???

Hi Gabe, I've got the same problem with my HCD-GX40. Did you find a solution to your problem?
