Hi everyone. I have a question about a Toshiba tv model#40s51u. The set has no picture or standby light. When testing the power supply all the pins show perfect voltage except 2 different backlight on (BL ON) pins that are on separate plugs. Any idea what the problem could be? Thank you.

Follow the foil on the back of the power supply/LED board or with all three connectors unplugged check those BLON pins for continuity. You'll see that they are the SAME point.

Possible solution

Thanks for the reply JTS. How can I distinguish which board is causing the problem? Also while checking the power supply I found a diode that was reading a dead short. It even reads dead short when switching to continuity. However after removing the diode from circuit it measured fine, .486. Im not an electronics professional but do have some knowledge in the area. Is that a common occurrence or is that representing a problem somewhere on the board?

Follow the foils. You'll likely find low resistance part(s) in parallel with the diode.
