|

Hello there. Toshiba Cinema series Model CN27C90. Occasionally when I first turn it on the picture looks like it's in letterbox (black at the top and bottom) however after a few seconds the picture snaps in ok.
The main problem is that now it's started to just fade from light to dark. It's like when you used to try to record a VHS tape that was protected with macrovision. It started sometime yesterday but only did it a couple of times. This morning when I turned it on it started shortly after turning it on. It stayed dark longer than it did yesterday as well. This went on often for about 40 min. After that it hasn't done it since. It did it with different inputs even. Input 1 and 2 DVD, cable, etc. It's definitely the set. Now last night it went dark after being on for hours. Any ideas? |

The first problem is your vertical circuit. It can often be fixed by resoldering the 9 pins of the vertical IC. However, less often it is caused by a bad capacitor near the vertical IC.
Maybe someone else will come along to help with the dark problem. The only suggestion I can think of is to try turning up the screen voltage some. It is the lower adjustment knob on the flyback. |

| Hello kuhurdler, thanks alot for your reply. I noticed just tonight that after it had been on for about an hour, it went dark and stayed that way. I turned it off for about 15-20 min and it's back now. Been running for another 15-20 min fine. Does this info help anymore? |

still nothing yet on the dark symptom, but I found this tip for your vertical problem:
CHECK/REPLACE C308 (P/N# 24668221) 220uF @ 35v HI-TEMP
I'll keep looking for something regarding a dark picture. |
