I have a Toshiba TZ50V51 rear projection TV that will not turn on. When powered, it will sit there for a second or so, and then show a blinking red power light.
So far, I know that:
- The power protection circuit / microcontroller is shutting my TV off because _something_ is wrong with it - googling for the issue, it could be really pretty much anything that trips the power protection, including solder joints that have gone bad, capacitors that fail, diodes that pout, the list goes on
- The convergence ICs are cited to be one part that can be at fault
- Jesse Mack had a good and cheap suggestion for a 51h84 with a similar issue. My circuit boards appear different enough that I can't apply his fix to this model one-to-one. Shucks.
At this point, I am hoping for advice from people who've seen this model (or model line) die in this way. Before I go for convergence ICs, which aren't exactly cheap, I'd like to know some ways of diagnosing the issue - or maybe a "9 times out of 10 replacing this fixes it" quickfix. One can hope. :)
I do have a Weller soldering station and know enough to be dangerous with it. I also have a multimeter that can measure diodes, measure capacitance and test transistors, if it comes to that. |
