You can hear it attempt to power on, it stays black and you can hear it power down, nothing displays or play on the speakers.
I've read that the CX3231(caps near the yoke connection) commonly goes out on these systems, but that cap apears to be in tact(no white powder or burn marks).
I've also read that the resistors on the crt neck can go bad, but the look ok.
Are there any other common poroblems with these systems?
Does my symptoms match one of the problem said above? |

typically, you cant just visually check capacitors. you need to check them with an ESR meter... which could cost around 100 dollars. or you could just replace them if you have a good tip indicating that they have high failure rates. capacitors are cheap
You can buy a multi meter for around 20 bucks... sometimes even lower. You can check the resistors and voltage levels with them. They come in quite handy, and every household should have one.
I dont think it would be the resistors on the neck of the CRT. I assume you would have sound if that were the cause. The capacitors are probably more likely. |

yeah I multi metered the nec resistors they appear to be the values I would expect.
I was mainly curious if that cap going bad would cause the tv to act the way it is, but I will probably just replace it and see what happens |
